Lots of programs set themselves to automatically start alongside Windows, so that they are ready to use whenever you need them. While you’ll obviously want your anti-virus scanner to load at start-up other software, such as Google Update and QuickTime Task,are far from vital and just slow the boot process down. Autoruns gives you total control over what starts when you boot your system or log into Windows. The program which was created by Sysinternals and Microsoft has a row of tabs along the top that let you work your way through the different start-up sections. These include Logon, Explorer,Sheduled Tasks, Services, Drivers, Known DLLs and Sidebar Gadgets. There’s also an Everything tab if you prefer to scroll your way through a comprehensive list of entries instead. Selecting a start-up item will provide details about that entry. Unwanted item scan be disabled or even permanently deleted, provided you’re positive it’s safe to do so. This latest version of Autoruns includes several additional auto-start locations and a useful ‘Jump to Folder’ option that will take you to an item’s source location. The separate command-line utility also boasts a couple of minor additions,such as the ability to display auto-start entries for every user account. It’s a powerful way to make your PC boot and run more efficiently.
