The internet isn't a safe environment, hackers are monitoring passwords, cookies and browsing activities, which is why users need all the protection they can get. Privacy ( security ) software has been developed to keep users' personal information safe as they browse the internet, generally by allowing users to securely delete their internet tracks, remove junk files and shred sensitive computer data.
Almost everything you do online (and off) gets recorded on your computer. Wipe can permanently erase any personal or incriminating data so that hackers and snoopers can't spy on your activities. The first time you run Wipe, the program will scan your computer looking for supporter software. This can take a while but it only needs to be done once. When the scan is finished, Wipe will present you with two options - you can delete the tracks and unnecessary files it's found or access the Advanced cleaning mode and take full control over what to keep and what to remove. The Advanced mode displays a full list of programs that might contain personal information and tells you which tracks and junk files can be cleaned. It also shows you how many files and Registry entries are affected and the amount of disk space that will be freed up. Scroll down the list and untick anything you want to keep (or aren't sure about wiping) and then hit the Delete button to remove them. You can also right-click individual entries to view the data that will be cleared. The Settings button lets you configure the program preferences an set a wipe mode. By default it just removes files using the standard Windows method but if you want to prevent files from being recovered you can select one of the more secure options. You will need to register to do this but it's free and only takes a few minutes. Wipe also offers a screenlock function and a task manager that lets you stop any running programs.
